Day 28
Day 28
October 5, 2015
Today was a short ride day from Canadian, Texas to Shamrock, Texas. We awoke to wind and rain. After checking radar, I decided to wait out the rain. I started my ride just after 12:00 noon. The rain had stopped but the wind did pick up – no need to wonder from which direction!! I am so used to head winds now I’m not sure I will know how to ride without the resistance of a strong head wind and the sound of a jet engine in my ears as the wind blows past.
I ended up making good time. I’ve learned to simply adjust to the wind and no longer fighting it (mentally or physically) I just ride my steady cadence and, in the end, forward progress is made and the miles melt away. I’ve been enjoying the scenery out here in the Texas panhandle. It’s beautiful rolling ranch country. There are times I can see the road rolling up and down for miles ahead of me.
We stopped tonight in Shamrock which is on the historic route 66. After a good meal at Big Vern’s Steakhouse, we settled in for the evening and ready for a great day tomorrow.
