Day 30

Day 30
October 7, 2015

Today was a wonderful rest day in Childress, Texas.  What an amazing town full of genuine people.  Marilyn and I enjoyed the very best of southern hospitality the entire time we have been here.   So many people to thank but especially James and Tracy Foster who have taken such good care of us while we were here and helped spread the word about Water Cycle.

Our day started early with the usual day-off chores, cleaning and organizing the RV, laundry, correspondence,  cleaning and maintenance on the bike.  Then we were off to share our story with the Childress Rotary Club.  From there we went over to First Baptist Church to set up for our presentations that evening to the youth groups.   We were blessed to see first-hand the amazing youth ministry taking place at First Baptist Church Childress and to share our story.

We were joined by our sister-in-law, Mary Clements from New Orleans who will be with us for several days.   She will be riding along with Marilyn in the RV.  It’s great fun for Marilyn and me to have family join us along the way.

I had a fun surprise this afternoon when I received a call from a longtime family friend from El Paso who I had not seen in 40 years.  As it turns out, he is living in Childress and heard I was coming through town from my cousin and also heard about Water Cycle on the local radio.  He dropped by the RV for a visit during the afternoon and was able to join us for the evening program at First Baptist.  It was a short visit to try to catch up on 40 years but was nevertheless a fun visit.

Tomorrow I ride out of Childress with several cyclists who will join me on my way to Seymour, Texas.  We’ll are sad to leave this wonderful town but will take with us many special memories of the friends we have made along the way.  Thank you Childress for making this a memorable stay.
