Day 42

Wow! What a day it was! Dann and I began riding at 8:00 am this morning. Our objective was to make the 58 miles to Abita Springs by 12:30 as a rendezvous for lunch with family. Marilyn drove on ahead with the RV to Slidell. She met family members there who together drove back to Abita Springs with bikes so that Marilyn, her brother Miles and sister Evelyn could ride with us the last 23 miles along the Tammany Trace bike trial to the family home in Slidell.

Day 41

We began our ride this morning in the cool weather and crossed the Mississippi River bridge in Natchez. Before we got off the bridge I had a flat tire and we pulled glass out of Dann’s tire. After that initial delay we enjoyed a beautiful ride through the picturesque town of Natchez then began our trek across Mississippi.

Day 40

We got an early start from Monroe, Louisiana this morning knowing we had a long day ahead to Natchez, Mississippi. We battled a heavy side wind and occasional headwind most of the day but did get a nice break with a tail wind several times.

Day 39

Today was a modified rest day. We got off to a very leisurely start in the morning. About mid-morning I received a call from my good friends at Digital Lightbridge. They had been in contact with the folks at Duck Commander and arranged a visit for us to the Duck Commander headquarters in Monroe for the afternoon.

Day 38

We left west Shreveport just before sunrise and crossed over the Red River as the sun was coming up over the city. The temperature was a cool 59 degrees and we made great headway before the temperature began to climb.

Day 37

We began our ride today from Diana, Texas and ended in Shreveport, Louisiana. We crossed the Louisiana state line early in the afternoon. The morning temperature was a very pleasant 59 degrees but by late morning it was scorching hot with a high in the upper 90’s.

Day 36

Day 36 turned out to be a wonderful day of cycling. The temperature when we started in Greenville, Texas was 60 degrees. We made great time in the morning with a slight tail wind and smooth asphalt.

Day 35

After breakfast this morning we said goodbye to Ron Davis who had spent the last two nights with us in Fort Worth and took great care of us while we were there. After pulling up anchor we drove to Denton, Texas to begin our ride.

This was another amazing day of hospitality and meeting new friends. We were hosted by Betty Claire Dupree McKnight, William and Elizabeth McKeachie and the Saint Andrews Parish family.

This morning we awoke in Jacksboro, Texas to a light fog and cool temperatures. My ride took me through rolling ranch country with very little traffic.
